The Alabama Department of Environmental Management and the Insurance Services Organization require that the Water Works Board periodically flush and test its water lines. This is done to ensure a pure water supply, and to test the system for fire protection. Any flushing of the lines results in sediment and dark film being disturbed. Unfortunately, this disturbance cannot be avoided; however, the sediment and dark film is not a health hazard. In order to remove any sediment or dark film in your water supply, please run a significant volume of water through your bath tub faucet on the cold water side until it clears. Also, please avoid washing clothes and fabrics if the sediment or film is present. We regret any inconvenience which may be caused by the flushing. If you have any questions about this matter, please contact the Water Service office 24 hours a day at 575-2617
